Who are Under Sky?…
Katie spent her childhood exploring woods and guddling in streams and has continued her lifelong passion for nature through all her adventures. UnderSky brings her years of experience connecting families and nature straight to your door.
I’ve surveyed butterflies in the Amazon, radio-tracked bats all night long, I make audio maps of birds wherever I walk and I love to translate the clouds. The essence of wildness and loving the natural world is integral to all that I do. I enjoy using all my senses when out and about building a stronger understanding of our seasonal wildlife.
I combine this passion with over 15 years of developing and leading nature activities for children and families. Previously a Countryside Ranger for the National Trust for Scotland I’ve organised hundreds of outdoor activities for every age group and many different abilities and life experiences. I thrive on the ability to bring families and nature closer together and recognise the huge importance of play to build connections.
I am continually learning about our wonderful world especially now alongside my son, whose perceptions and thoughts guide us on our nature journeys. I also have formal qualifications in Environmental Chemistry (BSc Hons), Sustainable Agriculture (MSc Distinction) and Interpretation of our Heritage (PgC Distinction). I am a member of the Scottish Countryside Rangers’ Association, the Institute for Outdoor Learning and a STEM Ambassador. I love bringing science into an outdoors setting and encouraging curiosity under the sky.
Kathryn thrives on using her artwork to communicate the joy of nature to your family.
She’s super eager to share, with your little ones, the wonder of the natural world that’s right on your doorstep.
Since having my daughters, it has never been more obvious to me the importance of looking after our environment and teaching our children about valuing the natural world. Well, that and the knowledge that lots of fresh air means sleepy children and then I get more free-time in the evenings to ‘colour-in’.
Which is what I love to do most of all!
At university I qualified with an Honours Degree in Design and then followed a career path in Fashion Design, Graphics, Illustration and even Wedding Planning. (I do love to organise!)
Katie and I work together to develop games and educational activities that children find truly captivating and great fun. Then, my job is to encapsulate it all and package it, for you, in one convenient, user-friendly fun-filled kit. Our handmade packs are filled with beautiful artwork & illustrations, carefully designed activity cards & play ideas and thoughtfully curated props which capture little imaginations and enhance children’s experience of outdoor play.
